Alaska Social Workers CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals
Alaska Social Workers
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, NetCE is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit.
The Alaska Board of Social Work Examiners accepts courses from any provider who is ASWB approved.
Continuing Education Requirement
The Alaska Board of Social Work Examiners accepts NetCE courses.
LCSW, LBSW, and LMSW are required 45 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by home study.* Not more than 12 contact hours of home study may be completed in one day.
Specific requirements for initial renewal include:
- Six (6) hours in substance abuse;
- Six (6) hours in cross-cultural education relating to Alaska Natives;
- Three (3) hours in professional ethics;
- Three (3) hours in teletherapy practice; and
- NEW Effective June 11, 2023, three (3) hours in suicide education.
Specific requirements for subsequent renewals include:
- Six (6) hours in substance abuse;
- Six (6) hours in cross-cultural education, of which three (3) hours include issues relating to Alaska Natives;
- Three (3) hours in professional ethics;
- Three (3) hours in teletherapy practice; and
- NEW Effective June 11, 2023, three (3) hours in suicide education.
* NetCE courses are considered home study.
