Kentucky Physicians CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals
Kentucky Physicians
In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure accepts courses from any provider who is ACCME-accredited and awards AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
Continuing Education Requirement
MDs and DOs are required 60 hours every three years, 30 of which must be AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Mandates include:
- Licensees authorized to prescribe or dispense controlled substances are required at least 4.5 hours of board-approved training related to KASPER, pain management, or addiction disorders every three years.
- DEA-licensed prescribers of Buprenorphine-Mono-Product or Buprenorphine-Combined-with-Naloxone are required 12 hours specific to addiction medicine every three years.
- Certifying practitioners of medicinal cannabis are required 6 hours with initial application and 3 hours every renewal thereafter in medicinal cannabis.
- Primary care physicians are required 3 hours of domestic violence within three years of initial licensure.
- Pediatricians, radiologists, family practitioners, and emergency medicine and urgent care physicians are required 1 hour of Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma within five years of initial licensure.
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
