Michigan Pharmacists CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals
Michigan Pharmacists / Pharmacy Technicians
In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
NetCE will report your credit to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), provided that you add your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth to your account. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs: Board of Pharmacy accepts courses from any provider who is ACPE accredited.
Continuing Education Requirement
NetCE is an approved provider through the Michigan Board of Pharmacy, CE Broker Provider #50-2405.
NetCE will electronically report successful course completions to CE Broker.
NetCE will report your credit to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), provided that you add your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth to your account. If you select to opt out of entering this information, you agree to not hold NetCE responsible for reporting your credit.
Pharmacists are required 30 hours every two years, 20 of which may be completed by home study.*
Requirements include:
- One (1) hour in pain and symptom management every two years. May include courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, pharmacology, behavior modification, stress management, clinical applications as they relate to professional practice.
- One (1) hour in pharmacy ethics and pharmacy law every two years. (May be completed in one or multiple courses)
- NEW Beginning June 1, 2022, an applicant for pharmacist licensure or registration must have completed a minimum of two (2) hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. For every renewal thereafter, in addition to completing any continuing education required for renewal, reregistration, or relicensure, an applicant must have completed a minimum of one (1) hour of implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle. Instruction must be synchronous/interactive or asynchronous teleconference or webinar. Unless prohibited by the code or rules, this training may be used to satisfy other training or continuing education requirements for license renewal. (Per MI Public Health Code R 338.7004 eff 5/16/2024.) These hours may be used toward the total hours required for Pharmacist license renewal.
- NEW Beginning with applications and renewals on and after May 28, 2024, licensed prescribers or dispensers of controlled substances must complete training in opioids and controlled substance awareness, every renewal period. Delegatees (other than a physician's assistant), or those allowed by practice agreement, or order to prescribe or dispense a controlled substance by a licensed prescriber or dispenser must complete a controlled substances training one time during the applicable license cycle. Topics may be obtained from more than one program. (Per MI Board of Pharmacy R 338.3135 eff 5/28/2024)
- Beginning with 2020 renewals, pharmacists must complete training in identifying victims of human trafficking, one-time only. These hours may be used toward the total hours required for Pharmacist license renewal.
Pharmacy Technicians are required 20 hours every two years, 15 of which may be completed by non-interactive means.**
Requirements include:
- One (1) hour in pain and symptom management every two years. May include courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, pharmacology, behavior modification, stress management, clinical applications as they relate to professional practice.
- One (1) hour in patient safety every two years.
- One (1) hour in pharmacy ethics and jurisprudence every two years. (May be completed in one or multiple courses)
- NEW Beginning June 1, 2022, an applicant for pharmacy technician licensure or registration must have completed a minimum of two (2) hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. For every renewal thereafter, in addition to completing any continuing education required for renewal, reregistration, or relicensure, an applicant must have completed a minimum of one (1) hour of implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle.
