RNs and LPNs are required 30 contact hours every two years.
APRNs are required 30 contact hours every two years to maintain RN license. Current national certification in specialty will meet requirements for 30 continuing education hours for nursing licensure. APRNs are required to complete an additional 30 hours, 20 of which must be in the area of specialty, including 5 hours of pharmacology. APRNs with an active DEA registration number for prescribing in New Hampshire must dedicate 3 of the 5 pharmacology hours to the topics of opioid prescribing, pain management, or substance abuse disorder.
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
