The Montana DLI (Dept. of Labor & Industry): Board of Dentistry accepts courses from any provider who is ADA or AGD approved.

Continuing Education

The Montana DLI (Department of Labor & Industry): Board of Dentistry accepts NetCE courses.

Dentists are required 60 hours every three years, all of which may be completed by home study.* Dentists who hold a deep sedation/general anesthesia permit are required 20 hours specific to anesthesia. Dentists who hold a moderate sedation permit are required 12 hours specific to anesthesia. These hours are included in the total hours required for license renewal.

Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder; or the safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment of patients with (or at risk of developing) opioid and other substance use disorders, one-time only.

Dental Hygienists are required 36 hours every three years, all of which may be completed by home study.* Dental Hygienists who hold a limited access permit (LAP) are required 12 additional hours every three years relevant to the permit. Dental Hygienists who qualify for limited prescriptive authority (LPA) are required 3 additional hours every three years specific to fluoride agents, topical oral anesthetics, or nonsystemic oral antimicrobials.

* NetCE courses are considered home study.
