Understanding the New York Child Abuse Identification & Reporting Requirement
What is the CE update for child abuse identification & reporting for healthcare professionals?
According to the New York State Education Department, Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to include protocols to reduce implicit bias in decision-making processes, strategies for identifying adverse childhood experiences, and guidelines to assist in recognizing signs of abuse or maltreatment while interacting virtually within the New York State Mandated Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect coursework.
This law requires that mandated reporters, including those who have previously undergone the current training, complete the updated training curriculum by April 1, 2025.
What professions does NetCE support to complete their New York Child Abuse Training?
We support the CE/CME needs of the following healthcare professions that are required to complete training related to New York’s child abuse identification and reporting mandate:

The following mental health professionals are able to complete this course for training, but will not be able to receive CE credit:

Do I need to complete updated training if I have already completed mandated training in the past?
Yes, all individuals previously trained in child abuse prevention must now complete a revised curriculum covering adverse childhood experiences, trauma, implicit bias, and recognizing child abuse in virtual environments for the New York CE requirement.
When is the deadline for completing the updated training curriculum?
By April 1, 2025, New York mandated reporters are required to fulfill the updated child abuse recognition and reporting training curriculum.
Is NetCE approved by the New York State Education Department to fulfill the 2 hour CE requirement?
